About Me

I'm Kathleen Bishop, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker—also known as a therapist.

I use my training as a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and use Health At Every Size® principles to guide my practice when working with clients who have a history of disordered eating and body image problems.

I am trained as a Relapse Prevention Specialist (Gorski) and have experience treating Substance Use Disorders (alcohol and drugs). I am trained in EMDR. I also provide treatment and support for depression, anxiety, phase of life issues (like mid-life transitions and retirement).

Through education, professional training, and lived experience, I support you to reconnect to the innate health and wisdom that resides in each of us.

Most importantly you are the expert in your own life. Therapy doesn't fix people instead it allows for the time, space and attention necessary to move through a difficult time and come out the other side to a better place.

I have lived in the Bay Area for most of my adult life and I was born and raised in Southern California.  I enjoy being out in nature, spending time with family and friends, my dog, the arts, book stores and Farmer's Markets.

From "Learn to love your food again" by Jennifer Rollin, MSW, LGSW

"Kathleen, LCSW, a therapist, says, “When you are present while you are eating, your brain actually registers that you have eaten by experiencing the texture and taste of your food. When you eat mindlessly, your brain does not register the experience leaving you feeling unsatisfied. Think of driving to work mindlessly and arriving at work with no recollection of the drive.”

I have known Kathleen for 5 years; about 4 of those in a professional setting and 1 of those years as her supervisee. Kathleen was a wonderful supervisor; she was approachable, non-judgmental and easy to talk to. We met for supervision weekly and she helped me to become a better clinician by being an attentive listener, providing relevant feedback, asking thought provoking questions to help me learn, and providing me with education about the latest research. In addition to helping me become a better clinician, she was ALWAYS sharing about her process of continually growing as a clinician. She has both the heart of a teacher and a learner. She is PASSIONATE about Body Positivity, Intuitive Eating, and HAES (health at every size). I would highly recommend Kathleen!

I have known Kathleen for over 25 years and she is a person of compassion and integrity. Kathleen believes one hundred percent in the philosophy of Intuitive Eating and is extremely knowledgeable about the subject. She practices it in her own life and has a great desire to help others heal from body shame and body image issues. I would highly recommend Kathleen as a therapist.
